We’re delighted to welcome guest blogger Hannah Lane, Communications Director at Redress. TRAID has partnered with them to help spread the word about the Eco Chic Design Award. Hannah tells us more!
There’s only a week to go to apply to The EcoChic Design Award 2014/15 – a career changing sustainable fashion design competition searching for emerging design talent ready to cut waste out of fashion. Apply by 15 August 2014 at www.ecochicdesignaward.com
The competition responds to the large amounts of environmentally-polluting textile waste produced and disposed of around the world. In order to compete for the career-changing prizes up for grabs, applicants must select one or more of the minimal waste design techniques of zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction, to design a ‘Modern China Chic’ contemporary and wearable womenswear collection that reflects style as much as sustainability.
Alongside designers from the regions of Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, France, Germany and Sweden, one UK based fashion designer is guaranteed to become a finalist and travel to Hong Kong in January 2015 to show their sustainable collections on the runway at Hong Kong Fashion Week where the winners will be announced.
Applicants can visit an information platform which provides essential learning guides and videos on the theory and techniques behind creating high-fashion designs using minimal waste design techniques of zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction.
As big advocates of waste reduction in the industry, TRAID is supporting The EcoChic Design Award and their Retail Product Manager, Claire Dawson speaks about reconstruction in the video below.
