Closet Clear-out Challenge - Traid

Closet Clear-out Challenge

Your wardrobe has the power to change lives.

This September we are challenging YOU to clear out your closet, and be part of our new campaign, helping us to achieve a huge 250,000 donations this month alone! All donations help fund our global partner projects supporting garment workers, their families, and communities. To join the challenge, all you have to do is donate!

In a world where fashion often leads to waste, Traid are challenging the status quo. 30% of the UK’s unwanted clothes end up in landfill. That’s around one billion garments burned or buried each year, around £140 million worth of clothes. This can’t continue.

That’s why we’re calling on you to join our Closet Clear-out Challenge, to change fashion for the better, one wardrobe at a time.

Join the challenge

Join Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Sabrina Grant, Sharon Horgan, Jim and Nancy Moir, Caryn Franklin, Patrick Grant, Michelle Dockery, Erin O’Connor and Gilles Peterson as they clear out their closets and donate to Traid to help change fashion for the better, one wardrobe at a time.

Sabrina Grant

“I’m donating to Traid, because I think they’re a really cool charity retailer… and I also want to extend the lifespan of the pieces that I’ve loved, let them find a new home and be loved by someone else.”

“We want to get to 250,000 garments donated in September and we need you all to help. We’ve got some great gear we’re donating, including a velvet jacket that I wore on the last Big Night Out!”

“It’s key for me to have an industry that addresses the rights and safety of garment workers, that’s why I support Traid. I’ll be donating some shoes by Georgina Goodman who was McQueen’s footwear designer for many seasons. They need a new owner to take them to more exciting events!”

Patrick Grant

“I decided to get involved with Traid’s Closet Clear-out Challenge, because I’ve always been a massive fan of the charity shop! If I wanted to dress well, I had to find things either second hand or make them. I’d love to encourage everybody to donate good quality clothes that you no longer wear.”

Michelle Dockery

“I’m thrilled to be supporting Traid’s ‘Closet Clear-Out challenge’ campaign, it’s such a simple ask – donate your unwanted clothes and raise vital funds for global projects that Traid support, supporting garment workers and their families.”

Gilles Peterson

“I found out that almost a third of the world’s clothes end up burned or buried every year which adds up to over one billion garments, which is crazy. We all have items in our wardrobe we never wear, so it’s the perfect time to dig them out and make a difference…”
